Malappuram. Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that Team India is one where everyone irrespective of their religion, or community, comes together to face the challenges before the country, and not the one that the Centre. The ruling government agrees. At an event in Kerala’s Malappuram district to felicitate Santosh Trophy winners and distribute football jerseys to different teams, Gandhi said just like a football or cricket team, all its players need to play as a unit in order to win. India is a team, whose success is based on the unity of ‘all the peoples, religions, languages, states and communities here’. He said, “This is Team India. However, we have a ruling government which does not understand this. They think that Team India can be successful by dividing India on the basis of religion, community. You can see the result of hatred and division. You can see the economic collapse that has happened. You can see unemployment which is evident in case of every individual.

Gandhi said, “Therefore, my advice to you is that the way you treat your fellow players in the team, similarly all Indians should be treated as a team. Take everyone forward together. Treat them regardless of where they come from, regardless of their religion, or community. Then Team India will be able to overcome all the challenges before it.” Gandhi further said in his address that India (success) is possible only if it is a ‘secular India’. The Congress MP said, “No other India is possible. An India that is divided on religious and linguistic lines is no longer India. India is a union of all states, religions, languages and communities and India exists only when everyone living here feels comfortable.” Gandhi was on a three-day visit to Kerala and will return to Delhi tonight.
