Government will get relief from inflation on Independence Day, decision to sell tomatoes at Rs 50 per kg from August 15

Increase in tomato price: Food inflation has reached 11.51 percent in July 2023 due to the prices of vegetables, especially tomatoes. Now the government has decided to sell tomatoes at Rs 50 per kg to give relief to the common people. On the occasion of Independence Day from August 15, 2023, the government has decided to sell tomatoes at Rs 50 per kg. The Department of Consumer Affairs has directed NCCF and NAFED to sell tomatoes at Rs 50 per kg.

The consumer affairs ministry said that the prices of tomatoes in the wholesale market have come down in recent days. Due to which it has been decided to sell tomatoes at Rs 50 per kg. The sale of tomatoes at cheap prices has started in Delhi-NCR from July 14, 2023, the ministry said. Till August 13, 2023, Nafed and NCCF have procured and sold 1.5 lakh kg of tomatoes in the retail market across the country. Apart from Delhi NCR, tomatoes have been sold at cheap prices in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur Kota, Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj and Bihar’s Patna, Muzaffarpur, Arra, Buxar.

Earlier, NCCF and Nafed started selling tomatoes at Rs 90 per kg, then the prices were reduced to Rs 80 per kg from July 16, 2023. From July 20, the prices were reduced to Rs.70. And now from Independence Day, tomatoes will be sold at Rs 50 per kg.
