Bandeshwar Pathak, founder of Solabh International, passed away at the age of 80. According to PTI, a close associate said that he died of cardiac arrest. On Tuesday, Pathak unfurled the national flag on the morning of Independence Day and collapsed soon after. Bandeshwar Pathak was immediately taken to Delhi AIIMS. The hospital informed that he died at 1.42 pm.

He was born in village Rampur Baghel in Vaishali district. He received his graduation degree in Sociology from Banaras Hindu University in 1964. He also completed his Master’s degree in 1980 and PhD in 1985 from Patna University. He founded Solabh International Social Service in 1970 with the aim of solving the country’s sanitation problems.

He has been instrumental in the construction of public toilets across the country.
