Modi Government: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the ‘Vishwakarma Yojana’ with a budget of up to Rs 15,000 crore to enhance livelihood opportunities for people engaged in traditional crafts like carpenters, masons and goldsmiths. The scheme, which primarily benefits people belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBCs), will be launched on September 17 on Vishwakarma Jayanti. Prime Minister Modi announced the scheme while addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day. He said that on the upcoming Vishwakarma Jayanti, a program will be launched for those who are earning their livelihood from traditional skills using tools or their hands.

These people got help

Modi said the Rs 13,000-15,000 crore scheme would help carpenters, goldsmiths, masons, laundresses and professional barbers, mostly from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community. The Prime Minister said that due to the development policies of the government, about 13.5 crore people have been able to get out of the clutches of poverty in the last five years. He said that from housing schemes to provision of Rs 50,000 crore for street vendors under PM Swaandhi scheme and many such programmes, 13.5 crore people have been helped to come out of poverty. He said that no one can give more satisfaction in life.

20 lakh crore in the 10th address

In his 10th address from the Red Fort, the Prime Minister said that the Mudra Yojana with a budget of over Rs 20 lakh crore has provided opportunities for self-employment, business and enterprise to the youth of the country. He said that around eight crore people have started new businesses and every entrepreneur has provided employment to one or two people. The Prime Minister said that businesses were supported by the government during the Covid-19 pandemic. He said that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) were saved from drowning by providing assistance of about Rs 3.5 lakh crore.
