Brazilian father and child die of Leigh-Frumini syndrome.

4 members of the same family died due to a terrible disease in Brazil. The dead include a father and three children. It is being told that 53-year-old Regis Fetusa Mota was suffering from a disease which was hereditary. He had this condition from birth which greatly increases the chances of developing cancer. It is being told that three children died between 2018 and 2022 due to this disease. While the father died recently.

As reported by the New York Post, Regis was born with a condition called ‘Le Fraumini Syndrome’. Li-Fraumeni syndrome is a rare disease that increases the chance of developing cancer by 90% in women and 70% in men. Due to this rare disease, the affected person will face one or more types of cancer throughout their life. This disease is inherited from the family. The disease was first discovered in 1969. Dr. Frederick Lee and Dr. Joseph Framini discovered this disease.

Who is most at risk?

There is a risk of cancer due to this rare disease. ‘Li-Fraumeni syndrome’ is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, bone sarcoma, adrenocortical carcinoma, brain tumors and acute leukemia. Not only this, but people affected by this rare condition are also at risk of developing cancer in the lungs, thyroid, kidneys and gonads. Overall, people with Li-Fraumeni syndrome are at risk of developing more than one type of cancer.

3 children died

According to information, Regis Feitosa’s youngest child died of leukemia in the year 2018 at the age of 10. While his second son aged 22 and a daughter aged 25 died due to brain tumor. Both of these children had previously beaten leukemia. But later he developed a brain tumor which became the cause of death. Regus was diagnosed with cancer 3 times between 2016 and 2023, including lymphocytic leukemia, multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
