The study was conducted by a group of researchers from Charles E. Florida Atlantic University. Schmidt College of Science’s goal was to find out about microbial contamination on the wrist. After testing the samples collected from different people, shocking results have been revealed. The study stated that people gave different items worn on the wrist. On examination, it was found that dangerous bacteria like E. coli and Staphylococcus were present on them. Not only this, the presence of some bacteria associated with skin and respiratory infections has also been detected.

E. coli is one such bacteria, commonly found in the intestines of humans as well as animals. This bacteria causes food poisoning and urinary tract infections. Whereas Staphylococcus is a bacteria which, if not controlled in time, can cause health problems like skin infections and pneumonia. The presence of these dangerous and harmful bacteria on the wrist is a cause for concern. Because many people wear wristbands, smart watches, fitness trackers on their wrists.

How does bacteria grow on the wrist?

1. Wristbands come in direct contact with the skin, allowing bacteria to enter the skin.

2. Sweat from the body usually collects on the wrist along with the clothes. You know that sweat contains bacteria, which stick to the wrist. This sweat contains salt as well as nutrients, which act as food for bacteria.

3. Most of the people do not consider it necessary to clean devices like smart phone, laptop, wrist band, smart watch. Along with dust and dirt, dirt from hands and different types of bacteria stick to them which spread diseases.
