IND vs PAK: Whenever there is a cricket match between India and Pakistan, the excitement is at its peak. Even now the matches are few and far between but about 15 years back India and Pakistan used to have frequent matches and the high voltage drama was at its peak. India and Pakistan will now meet at least twice in the Asia Cup, while the World Cup in 2023 will see at least one match. Its schedule has been released. Almost 26 years ago, Pakistan’s opening batsman Saeed Anwar created a huge record which has not been broken since then. Those who are fond of cricket around 2000, may know about it, but the new generation may know less about it.

Saeed Anwar played a brilliant innings of 194 runs against Team India in the year 1997.

Year 1997 and date 21st May. On that day, a fierce rivalry between India and Pakistan began in Chennai. It was an Azadi Cup match. Team India was captained by Sachin Tendulkar and Pakistan team was captained by Rameez Raja. In this match, Saeed Anwar and Shahid Afridi entered the field as opening batsmen. Afridi got out after scoring 5 runs. Ramiz Raj scored 22 runs. Ejaz Ahmed also returned to the pavilion after scoring 39 runs. But one batsman who was not getting out and scoring runs aggressively was Saeed Anwar. Wickets were coming from one end after another but Saeed Anwar was not taking the name of getting out. Saeed Anwar first completes his half-century, then scores a century and then crosses the 150 mark. When the team’s score was 297, Saeed Anwar was dismissed for 194, hitting 22 fours and five sixes off 146 balls. Captain Sachin Tendulkar dismissed him by Sourav Ganguly. This is the highest individual innings in the history of all ODI matches played between India and Pakistan. These records have not been broken till date.

Virat Kohli scored 183 runs against Pakistan in the year 2012.
In the year 2012, Team India’s star batsman Virat Kohli came close to it, but could not break it. Virat Kohli scored 183 against Pakistan in Dhaka, Bangladesh on 18 March 2012, but fell short of Saeed Anwar’s record. However, this innings is also the highest innings by an Indian batsman against Pakistan. After that, if we talk about number three, it is in the name of MS Dhoni. He scored 148 runs on 5 April 2005 at Visakhapatnam. This was the early stage of MS Dhoni’s career, it was after this innings that MS Dhoni became famous all over the world and is still famous today. Now that India and Pakistan will face each other three to four times in a few months, it will be interesting to see if any batsman from India or Pakistan breaks this record or will have to wait for a few more days.
