Punjab is once again in the grip of floods. Meanwhile, Army and NDRF teams rescued around 300 people from flooded villages in Punjab’s Kapurthala district on Thursday. Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Karnel Singh said that six teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Army had dispatched six boats to rescue the people trapped in the flood and all the evacuees have been sent to relief camps. . A total of 22 villages have been affected by the floods in the Beas river due to the release of excess water from Bhakra Dam.

Some parts of these districts are under water.

He hoped that the situation would improve by Friday. He said some of the flood-affected people are living in ‘deras’ inside ‘dhoshibands’ (pashtuns) to tend their fields, while around 40 people are reluctant to leave their dilapidated houses and livestock. Parts of Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Rupnagar and Kapurthala districts were inundated this week after excess water was released from the Pong and Bhakra dams. Army and NDRF teams are also assisting in rescue and relief operations in some affected areas of Gurdaspur district.

Medical teams have been sent by boats to homes in the district to check on people who have been stuck in their homes for three days and do not want to go out, officials said. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited the flood-affected areas of Hoshiarpur district by boat to take stock of the situation. Mann said that the entire government machinery, including the helicopter of the state government, is at the service of the public in this difficult hour. The Chief Minister said that the state government has already ordered a special survey to ascertain the losses caused to people due to floods in the state.
