The Indian SUV market is fiercely competitive. In a recent news it has been revealed that Maruti Suzuki has beaten Mahindra & Mahindra in terms of SUV sales in the month of August. Maruti has overtaken Mahindra & Mahindra. Maruti Suzuki has become the largest sports utility vehicle (SUV) manufacturer in India last August, Maruti Suzuki executive director Shashank Srivastava said on Monday, Moneycontrol reported.
The 1 million sales mark will be crossed during the festive season.
According to the report, Shashank Srivastava also said that the carmaker (Maruti Suzuki) registered a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 16.5 percent last month, which is faster than the automobile industry. He said that we will cross one million sales this festive season. The festive season typically accounts for 26% of total annual sales. Maruti’s market share has grown with the introduction of four new SUVs. He also said that we have recorded a whopping 25% growth in retail sales in Kerala during the Onam season this year.
SUV share in the total market
According to the report, Shashank Srivastava also said that the small car segment has declined to 30 percent of the total auto industry from 35 percent last year, while the SUV segment is growing well. According to Money Control News, Shashank said that the SUV (SUV market) has a 49 percent share in the total market, compared to just 29 percent a few years ago.
Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 189,082 vehicles in August. Out of this, 1,58,678 units have been sold in the domestic market while 24,614 units have been exported. Talking about Mahindra’s sales, the company sold a total of 70,350 units of vehicles in August. These include recovered vehicles.
