For the past several days, fake news about Tata giving free mobile recharge to people has been circulating on social media. Different people are claiming through different posts that Tata is giving free recharge to people on Ratan Tata’s birthday. Along with this, people are being asked to click on an unknown link.

What is the claim in the post?
For the past several days, news has been continuously shared on social media that everyone will get free recharge on Ratan Tata’s birthday. A user named Ashiq Wani wrote – “TATA BIRTHDAY OFFER Tata company is giving 28 days recharge of Rs 239 to all Indian customers on Ratan Tata’s birthday”. A link is also shared with it which you are asked to click. A similar post has also been made by a user named Shahzad Khan. This user also shared a different link that people are being asked to click on.

We investigated
We investigated this claim of free mobile recharge that went viral on social media. First of all we went to the official website of Tata Company and searched about the claim here. If there was such an announcement, it would have been there. However, no free recharge has been announced on Tata’s website. Now we checked Tata’s official X (Twitter) handle. Here also we didn’t find any tweet about free recharge going viral. This leads us to believe that the claim of free recharge is completely false. We also came across a tweet from Tata some time back in which the company is taking precautions to avoid clicking on such fake news and unknown links. Now we resorted to Google Open Search using keywords related to the viral post. As we did this, we came to know that Ratan Tata’s birthday free recharge claim had gone viral not only now but also earlier.
It is not Ratan Tata’s birthday yet.
While we were looking for so many things, we thought why not find out about Ratan Tata’s birthday as well. As we did this, our doubt deepened. Actually, Ratan Tata’s birthday falls on December 28 which is far away. Even before this, many false news regarding mobile recharge have gone viral. That is, it became clear that people are being clicked on unknown links by tempting them with free recharge.

What did the investigation reveal?
In all the research done above, we have not found any evidence that Tata Company is distributing free recharge on Ratan Tata’s birthday. Apart from this, Ratan Tata’s birthday is also far away. In such a case, this post claiming free recharge is completely false. People are advised to avoid such fake posts and do not click on any unknown links.
