GST Update: There was a heated debate between the ruling party and the opposition on the issue of GST dues in the Rajya Sabha at the New Parliament House. Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjan Kharge, in the Rajya Sabha accused the central government of not disbursing GST money to the states. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given a strong response to his allegation. Denying these allegations, the Finance Minister said that the opposition leader’s allegation is beyond reality.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjan Kharge attacked the central government in his speech and said that the states are being weakened. They are not getting GST money. The opposition leader alleged that MNREGA money was not being given to the states. Even money for agriculture or irrigation is not getting on time. The Finance Minister objected to these allegations of Mallikarjun Kharge.
Finance Minister Seetha Raman termed these allegations of the opposition leader as beyond the truth. The finance minister said that we have paid the states their GST dues even by taking loans. The Finance Minister said that three times the government has paid the GST dues of the states in advance. He clarified that there is no outstanding amount from the states. The finance minister said that he has complete data.
A factually incorrect statement has been made by the Leader of the Opposition in which he is saying that the GST revenue is not disbursed to the states on time. This is absolutely wrong.
