In the year 2019, the woman had approached the High Court seeking implementation of the 2017 order of the Labor Department’s Employees’ Compensation Commissioner which had come in her favour. Last year, the High Court filed a contempt petition in the matter. Justice Koro, in an order last week, said the plaintiff had made no effort to comply with his own affidavit regarding the payment.

The Delhi High Court has sentenced a man to six months in jail for contempt of court, saying that no one can be allowed to undermine the majesty of law by bad conduct. Justice Purushendra Kumar Kuru said that the rule of law needs to be safeguarded vigorously to maintain the sanctity of the judicial process and willful disregard should be investigated lest it lead to the common man’s suffering. The integrity of the judiciary should be tarnished in the eyes.

The judge said that in the present case, the convict had promised before the High Court to pay Rs 13 lakh as compensation to the deceased driver’s wife, but he committed contempt of court by “deliberately violating the affidavit”.In this case, a woman had claimed that her husband’s monthly salary was Rs 15,000 and had requested the court to pay the outstanding amount as it had not been paid since May 2013. It was claimed that the person objecting to the application became “enraged” and attacked the person concerned, after which he “disappeared” and his body was found hanging from a tree in January 2015.
