New Delhi: Big news has come out regarding the Women’s Protection Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Act). The bill has been amended and is being debated in the Lok Sabha. On this bill, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that it is a constitutional amendment bill. Modi government has worked to remove social inequality. We came up with many schemes to address social inequality. This bill is important for women empowerment.

What was the amendment? What did the law minister say?

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that today’s bill will increase the dignity of women and also increase the equality of opportunities. There are four main clauses in the bill that we are amending.

  1. The first clause consists of Article 239 of the Constitution, to which we are adding 239AA. This will ensure 33% reservation for women in the Delhi Assembly.
  2. Second Clause 3 is being added, in which we are adding Section 33A to Article 330 of the Constitution. Under which there will be 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha. This is a big step.
  3. According to the third clause, a new Article 33A is being inserted after Article 332 of the Constitution according to which 33% seats are being provided for women in the State Assembly.
  4. In the fourth clause, a new Article 33A is being inserted after Article 334 of the Constitution, according to which this reservation for women (which this House is debating today) will remain effective for 15 years. After 15 years it will be decided only by Parliament whether to increase it or not. Parliament will have this right.
