‘Black day for democracy’, TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee accuses police of misconduct

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee and other party leaders and workers were released after being detained for nearly three hours. These people were protesting at Krishi Bhavan demanding a meeting with the Union Minister.

We were dragged and humiliated.

After his release on Tuesday night, Abhishek Banerjee said – ‘The people fighting for Bengal were made to wait for three hours… The minister ran away. We were sitting there peacefully but suddenly the policemen attacked all of us including the women. We were dragged and humiliated. Banerjee said – ‘Today is a dark day for democracy. Pictures don’t lie. The manner in which our MPs were harassed is in front of everyone.

Campaign against misbehavior on 5th October

Abhishek Banerjee said- ‘We will conduct ‘Raj Bhavan campaign’ with 1 lakh people at Raj Bhavan on October 5 at 3 pm against police abuse. We will also meet the Governor and hand over 5 million letters to him.

The tug of war between the Center and Bengal is intensifying.

In fact, the rift between the Center and the West Bengal government has intensified over the demand to release funds to West Bengal. The Trinamool Congress protested for the second consecutive day in Delhi on Tuesday. A day after staging a two-hour dharna at Raj Ghat on Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, Abhishek Banerjee protested at Jantar Mantar along with TMC MPs, MLAs and state ministers and supporters including MGNREGA workers.

A march was taken out to the Ministry of Rural Development.

Later, they marched to the Ministry of Rural Development at Krishi Bhavan. Here he was to meet Union Minister of State for Rural Development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti. About an hour and a half after she left for Krishi Bhavan, TMC leaders claimed that the minister of state refused to meet them, saying she would not meet more than five delegates.

Protest till 9pm, police detained.

A group of TMC leaders led by Abhishek Banerjee went on strike. The protest continued till around 9 pm after which the police detained them and threw them out of the ministry premises. The police released the Trinamool leaders late at night. (Input Agency)
