A tragic accident has taken place in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. It is said that a mortar was allegedly washed away after the Teesta river flooded here. The mortar shell that came with the water exploded while trying to touch it, killing two people and injuring four. Police believe that the mortar shell belonged to the army and fell down the hills after the cloudburst and floods in Sikkim.

Four others were hospitalized in critical condition

The police say that the victims of the explosion have not yet been identified. A senior police officer said, “Four injured have been admitted to the hospital and a thorough investigation has been started.” Local police sources speculated that the victims might have been swept away by the floodwaters. He must have tried to touch. Look at the mortar shell that came in, it must have exploded. “The condition of the two injured is critical and the death toll is expected to rise,” the police said.

The death toll in Sikkim rose to 21.
Notably, the death toll rose to 21 on Friday in the disaster caused by flash floods in the Teesta river due to cloud bursting at Lonak Lake in Sikkim. Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are continuing to search for missing people in the Teesta river catchment area and lower reaches of North Bengal for the third day, officials said. Chief Minister PS Tamang said that out of 23 army personnel who went missing from Bardang area, the bodies of seven have been recovered from different parts of the lowlands while one has been rescued. While the search for 15 missing soldiers is going on.
