The Union Government’s ambitious PM Gati Shakti Yojana has completed two years today, Friday. The government launched the scheme in 2021 to reduce the cost and time of projects in the infrastructure sector. This scheme of the government has proved to be quite effective. The scheme is said to have expedited work on projects worth lakhs of crores of rupees in its 2 years.

The government has released the report card on the completion of two years of the scheme. According to the report card, more than 300 central and state projects have been reviewed under the PM Gati Shakti Yojana during the last 2 years. The total cost of these projects is over Rs 11.58 lakh crore. Under the scheme, things like vetting, speedy approval and removal of bottlenecks in projects have been done.

The performance report card prepared by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry states that the PM Gati Shakti Yojana has improved the level of ease of doing business and ease of living in the first two years. According to the ministry, where earlier it used to take 3-4 months to finalize the pre-alignment of an infrastructure project, now it is being done in a month.
The issuance of No Objection Certificates has been digitized for all projects under PM Gati Shakti Yojana. Creation of an integrated portal has improved the scheme preparation work. Earlier this approval was obtained manually which took a lot of time.
Evaluation of these projects
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, more than 200 state projects are among the projects reviewed under the PM Gati Shakti Yojana. These projects worth over Rs 5000 crore are related to improving logistics infrastructure. There are 156 major infrastructure projects to ensure last mile connectivity.

Among the major projects reviewed are 45 railway projects worth Rs 6.06 lakh crore, 47 road projects worth Rs 4.19 lakh crore, housing and urban development projects worth Rs 79,000 crore and new and renewable projects worth over Rs 20,000 crore.
