In fact, on June 11, 2011, Jyotirmoy Dey was killed by unknown assailants at Hiranandani in Powai. The killers have been identified as a seven-person group linked to underworld gangster Chhota Rajan. In the initial investigation, Chhota Rajan came under the suspicion of the Mumbai police. After that, the case was handed over to the CBI in the year 2016. After which Jagannavora was detained by the Mumbai Police on November 25, 2011. She was then the Deputy Bureau Chief of the Mumbai Bureau of the Asian Age newspaper and was 37 years old. Jaganna was accused of giving important information about Jyotarmoy D to Rajan. It was reported that Jagana had given the assailants several important details such as Utramoy Dey’s house and the license plate number of his bike.

Jagannavora was later granted bail in the case and released on 27 July 2012. According to news agency PTI, Jaganna was granted bail because she was a single mother and had to take care of her young child. A web series based on Jagannavora’s story called ‘Scoop’ has also been made. This series is released on Netflix and is produced and directed by Hansal Mehta. It stars Karishma Tanna in the lead role. It is inspired by Byculla: My Days in Jail, the autobiography of journalist and crime reporter Jaganna Vora, which describes her experiences after being accused of murdering another reporter.
