After fresh rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, mercury falls, yellow alert issued

Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: Temperatures in Himachal Pradesh have dropped further after rain and snowfall. Normal life has also been affected by fresh rain and snowfall in some parts of the state. Meanwhile, ‘yellow alert’ has been issued in some areas of the state regarding storm, rain and snowfall. The main Leh-Manali National Highway was closed for vehicular traffic on Friday following fresh snowfall in upper reaches of Kullu and Lahaul and Sapti districts. At the same time, light to moderate snowfall occurred near Atal Tunnel, Sisu, Koksar and Rohtang Pass.

Vehicular traffic affected

Lahol and Spiti Superintendent of Police Mayank Choudhary said that fresh snowfall has disrupted vehicular traffic from Darcha to Sarchu and from Koksar to Rohtang and also on National Highway 505 (Samdu-Kaja-Grampho). Traffic is blocked from The state capital Shimla is experiencing intermittent light rain with cool winds. The city was shrouded in thick clouds and fog, reducing visibility to a few meters and affecting traffic movement on roads. Kinnore, Lahaul and Spiti, Kullu and Rohtang Pass, Dholadhar Range and higher reaches of Pin Valley received light snowfall while fog-shrouded Dharamshala also received light rain.

Yellow alert for heavy rain

The local meteorological center has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers with gusty winds at isolated places over Chamba, Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Shimla, Solan, Sirmore, Mandi and Lahaul. A ‘yellow’ warning has been issued. ‘Alert’ has been issued. Due to the influence of Western Disturbance, heavy rain or snowfall is forecast at isolated places over Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Lahaul and Sapti districts on Friday. The Meteorological Department has warned that it will affect essential services like water and electricity, reduce communication, traffic and visibility on roads.

Six degree Celsius temperature in Manali

The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in the central and lower hilly areas and snowfall in the upper areas on November 11. Kasumasari and Keelung in the state recorded minimum night temperatures of minus 0.6 degrees and minus 0.5 degrees Celsius respectively, while Samdu, Kalpa recorded 3.2 degrees, Narkanda five degrees and Manali six degrees Celsius.
