India TV Fact Check: Even though India could not win the title of World Cup 2023, but India showed the whole world how the Cricket World Cup is organized. After winning the World Cup, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself handed over the trophy to Australian team captain Pat Cummins. But meanwhile, many users are sharing the video on social media and claiming that PM Modi ignored Pat Cummins after handing over the trophy. But when we investigated this claim, it turned out to be completely misleading.

What’s going viral?

In fact, many users are sharing these videos on social media platform X. One such video Posted by a user named @CricketwithAnas. The four-second clip was accompanied by a caption that read, “India proves itself to be the most humiliated host!” Only this video A user named @kanwalrazi20 shared and wrote, “India proved itself to be the most disrespectful host…! This kind of behavior is not acceptable in sports.”

This video is going viral on social media.

In this four-second video clip, Australian team captain Pat Cummins can be seen holding the World Cup trophy and PM Modi is also present on the stage with the Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Australia. The two leaders are coming down the stage after presenting the trophy to Pat Cummins.

India TV checked the facts.

To verify this claim, we did a direct keyword search on Google and found videos and photos of PM Modi handing over the trophy to Australian team captain Pat Cummins. In the search results we found a news from India Today which was published on 19 November 2023. The headline of this news is – PM Modi hands over the World Cup to Australia after a great victory (PM Modi hands over the World Cup to Australia after a great win)

A photo of PM Modi was found in the news of India Today

In the picture included in this India Today news, PM Modi is seen warmly shaking hands with Pat Cummins, the captain of the Australian team, while handing over the trophy. Then when we dug up more pictures related to this, we found a tweet from news agency ANI which had pictures of PM Modi giving the cup to Pat Cummins. Looking at these pictures, it doesn’t seem like PM Modi has ignored them. Rather, in these pictures, PM Modi and Pat Cummins are seen meeting warmly.

What did the investigation find?

A fact check by India TV revealed that the claim made with the viral video is completely bogus. Pat Cummins gave a warm welcome to PM Modi while handing over the trophy.
