Ranchi: It was a moment of joy and sorrow for one of the 41 workers evacuated from the under-construction Sulkiara Tunnel in Uttarakhand. According to reports, the father of Baktu Murmu, a resident of Jharkhand, died hours before his son came out of the tunnel. The family of the deceased claim that the death of 70-year-old Barsa Marmo was due to concern for his son trapped in the tunnel. Bursa’s 28-year-old son Buktu Marmo along with 40 other laborers had been trapped in the Silkiara tunnel since November 12.
He died while sitting on the cot.
Buktu Murmu’s family said on Wednesday that Murmu was worried about his son Buktu after hearing the news of the tunnel collapse on November 12. Murmu, a resident of Bahda village in East Singhbhum district, died around 8 am on Tuesday while sitting on his cot. When contacted, local government officials said they were yet to confirm the cause of death, though Murmu died of a suspected heart attack. Let us tell you that despite being in the tunnel for so long, all the workers were healthy and safe.
The work will start after the security audit.
All the 41 workers rescued from the Sulkiara tunnel were airlifted to Rishikesh AIIMS on Wednesday where their health was checked.
