Miscreants looted Rs 18.85 crore from a bank in Manipur’s Akharul.

Imphal: A major robbery incident took place at a branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Akhrul town of Manipur on Thursday. According to the information given by the authorities, unidentified armed robbers robbed the PNB branch in Akhrol and looted Rs 18.85 crore. The police, quoting eyewitnesses, said that 8 to 10 armed men attacked the PNB Bank branch located in Viewland-1 of Akhrol city in the afternoon. He said that when miscreants attacked the bank, the employees were counting money after a full day’s transactions.

‘Bank employees were tied with rope’

According to the police, armed criminals approached the counting employees and looted Rs 18.85 crore. Unidentified masked men reportedly had sophisticated weapons and overpowered the security personnel and PNB branch staff. “The security personnel and bank employees were tied up with ropes at gunpoint by the armed men who fled with the cash,” a police officer said. Security forces led by senior police officers immediately reached the spot and the bank authority has registered a case with the police in this regard.
