The local stock market was bullish for the sixth consecutive day on Tuesday. The market closed at new highs again today. The Sensex jumped 431.02 points to close at a new record high of 69,296.14 points. The Nifty also rose 168.50 points to close at a new high of 20,855.30 points. Investors earned more than Rs 3 lakh crore during the trade. The Sensex also touched an all-time high of 69,381.31, though the mid-cap and small-cap indices of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed marginally higher. Banking and energy stocks led the market to new highs today.

The rupee closed steady at 83.38 (provisional) per dollar.

The Nifty 50 touched a new record high of 20,864.05 during Tuesday’s session. December 5 marked the sixth consecutive trading session when both indices closed higher. According to Livemint, the BSE mid-cap and small-cap indices also touched new record highs of 35,216.47 and 41,317.67 respectively during the session. Powergrid, NTPC, SBI, ICICI Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra were among the top gainers in the Sensex in today’s session. While Wipro, HCL Tech, Infosys, Bajaj Finance closed the biggest declines.

Mid and small caps outperform large caps in 2023.

Mid and small caps have outperformed large caps in 2023 and are up 36 per cent and 46 per cent respectively in calendar year 2023 compared to Nifty’s 11 per cent rise. This has been revealed in a report by Motilal Oswal Financial Services. Mid-cap/small-cap outperformed large-cap by 4.9%/6.5% in November 2023.
