The Mumbai unit of the Congress on Wednesday demanded the Maharashtra government to change the name of Mumbai’s Dadar railway station to Chetiya Bhoomi. Chetia Bhoomi is the Mahapari Nirvana of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the creator of the Constitution of India. Every year on December 6, Dr. Ambedkar’s death anniversary is celebrated as ‘Mahaprinirvan Divas’ and thousands of people from across the state gather at Chetiya Bhoomi on this day.
Millions of Ambedkar’s followers demand.
Congress Mumbai unit president Varsha Gaikwad paid homage to Dr. Ambedkar at Chetiya Bhoomi on Wednesday. Later, while talking to reporters, he said, “Earlier, the state government approached the Center to rename Elphinstone Road railway station as Prabhadevi (station). Similarly, Dadar railway station was renamed.” Chetiya Bhoomi should also be kept. This is the long standing demand of millions of followers of Dr. Ambedkar.
Elphinstone Road Station is now named Prabhadevi Station.
He said that in 2018, the state government changed the name of Elphinstone Road station to Prabhadevi (station). Similarly, when a new railway station was being built at Oshiwara, it was named Ram Mandir. Gaikwad said, “If we think about it, Bhimsainik’s demand to rename Dadar railway station as Chetiyabhumi is quite old” (input language).
