The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has released a report on December 3. The report titled ‘Crime in India Report 2022’ contains data on all types of crime in India in the year 2022. According to the report, Mizoram recorded the third lowest number of murders in the country last year. This northeastern state recorded 31 murders in 2022. 9 cases were reported in Sikkim and 21 in Nagaland.

6 killed due to conflict in Mizoram

According to NCRB data, 14 such cases of murders were registered in Mizoram, the motive behind which was not known and six were due to conflict. The state recorded 28 murder cases in 2020 and 24 in 2021. According to NCRB data, a total of 28,522 murder FIRs were registered across the country in 2022. The highest number of murder FIRs, 3,491, were registered in Uttar Pradesh. After that, 2,930 FIRs were registered in Bihar and 2,295 in Maharashtra.

Incidents of suicide in Sikkim?

At the same time, the NCRB report said that Sikkim has the highest suicide rate in the country. According to the report, the suicide rate in Sikkim per one lakh population was recorded as 43.1%. It is followed by 42.8% in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 29.7% in Puducherry, 28.5% in Kerala and 28.2% in Chhattisgarh. In 2022, the national average rate stood at 12.4% with a total of 1,70,924 suicides across the country. According to the report, Sikkim recorded 293 suicides in 2022, which is 27 more than 2021 and the suicide rate has increased by 10.2%.
