In the ODI World Cup 2023, when the Pakistani team failed to make it to the semi-finals due to their disappointing performance, one of the players who faced the most criticism apart from captain Babar Azam was leg-spinner Shadab Khan. Before the World Cup, Pakistan’s poor performance in the Asia Cup 2023 was also seen and at that time everyone expressed concern over the form of the spinners. Despite this, Babar Azam expressed complete faith in Shadab Khan, even though he could not do anything special in the tournament. Now, during an interview, Shadab made a big statement regarding his friendship with Babar and also expressed his views on the issue of his joining the team.
I was not part of the team because of friendship.
Shadab Khan said in his interview to Pakistani news channel Sama TV that I was not in the team because of Babar Azam’s friendship. I don’t think it can happen because of friendship. If so, I would like it to be in different leagues as well. I get offers to play in leagues all over the world but I am in the top category even though Babar is not with me. There must be a reason why I was chosen. My friendship with Babar has nothing to do with my choice. In ODI World Cup 2023, Shadab Khan got a chance to play only five matches in which he managed to take only 2 wickets in total.
When I was improving in the test, I was dropped.
The Pakistani team under the captaincy of Shan Masood is currently on a tour of Australia where they have to play a three-match T20I series against the host team from December 14. Shadab did not get a place in this team, he played his last Test match in 2020 against England. In this regard, Shadab also said that when I was improving as a Test bowler, I was dropped from the team. At that time I started playing red ball regularly and my bowling was also improving. Shadab Khan has so far played 6 Test matches for Pakistan and in them he has managed to take 14 wickets.
