New Delhi: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar on Thursday ‘returned home’ and quit the Congress to join the BJP. Let us tell you that he joined the Congress after being upset over not getting a ticket in the assembly elections held in May last year, but the change of party did not help him much. He met Union Ministers Bhupendra Yadav and Rajeev Chandrasekhar, former Karnataka Chief Minister and party Parliamentary Board member BS Yeddyurappa, Chief Spokesperson and Media Department In-charge Anil Baloni and party Karnataka unit president B. were present in the presence of Y. Vijayendra returned home.

Climb the ladder of success in BJP.

Jagdish Shettar, a six-time MLA from Hubli-Dharwad Central seat, is one of the veteran leaders of the state. Shettar’s family has been associated with the party since the Jan Sangh days. He is considered to be an influential leader of the Kattur region of Karnataka. While in the BJP, he served as a Minister, Assembly Speaker, Leader of the Opposition and Chief Minister. In the last assembly elections in Karnataka, top BJP leaders had urged the 67-year-old Shettar not to contest the assembly polls to make way for others, which had angered Shettar.

Shettar lost the election to the BJP candidate.

Jagdish Shettar had then insisted that he wanted to contest the election for the last time. When the BJP did not give him a ticket despite all efforts, he joined the Congress. After joining the Congress, Shettar had alleged that the BJP had insulted him by not giving him a ticket and that the party was being run by only a few people. The Congress had also fielded him as its candidate from the Hubli Dharwar Central seat, but he lost to the BJP candidate in the assembly elections. Now, a few months after the assembly elections, he has once again joined the BJP.
