Tuesday’s session turned out to be good for the stock market, with the mid-cap index hitting record highs, adding Rs 4 lakh crore to investors’ wealth.

Stock market close on 6 February 2024: Tuesday’s trading session has turned out to be very good for the Indian stock market. The Indian stock market closed sharply higher on strong buying in IT and oil and gas sector stocks. If the Sensex manages to cross the 72,000 mark, the mid-cap index has hit a lifetime high. At the end of today’s trade, the BSE Sensex jumped 455 points to close at 72,186 points and the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty jumped 158 points to close at 21,939 points.

BSE market cap at historic high

The market cap of listed stocks has also reached historic highs due to the tremendous growth in the market. The market cap of BSE-listed companies was Rs 386.97 lakh crore, a record high. The market cap in the previous session was Rs 382.74 lakh crore. This means that investors’ wealth has increased by Rs 4.23 lakh crore in today’s trade.

State of the sector

In today’s business, the buying of IT stocks has led to a huge rise in its index. The Nifty ID index closed with a gain of 1085 points. Apart from this, auto, pharma, metals, energy, commodity, healthcare, oil and gas stocks closed higher. While FMCG and banking stocks declined. Nifty’s mid-cap index touched an all-time high of 49,000, while the small-cap index also rose. Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 19 closed with gains and 11 closed with losses. While, out of 50 shares in Nifty, 34 shares closed with gains and 16 closed with losses.

Rising and falling shares

In today’s trade, BPCL closed up 5.82%, HDFC Life 5.23%, HCL Tech 4.37%, TCS 4.22%, Maruti Suzuki 3.97%. While shares of Power Grid, Britannia ITC, Grasom declined.
