Kolkata: Six BJP leaders, including West Bengal Leader of Opposition Subindu Adhikari and Agni Mitrapal, have been suspended for the remainder of the current session for disorderly conduct and misbehavior in the assembly. He has been suspended under Rule 348 of the State Assembly. The motion was moved by West Bengal Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suvandeep Chattopadhyay and was moved by the Speaker to the House and the motion was carried.

After being suspended from the assembly session, the BJP MLAs including Shobendu Adhikari have sat on strike in the assembly hall. Among the MLAs who have been suspended are Sabindu Adhikari, Shankar Ghosh, Agni Mitrapal, Bankam Ghosh, Meher Goswami, Taapsee Mandal. 6 MLAs including Shobhandu Adhikari have been suspended till the 17th.

Shibindu Adhikari called the suspension a ‘gift’

On this issue, West Bengal opposition leader Sabindu Adhikari said that the Bharatiya Janata Party will always raise its voice for the respect of women. He said that we were protesting against the incident that happened in Sandishakhli. We reached the well of the house and raised our voices. Shibindu Adhikari said that we have been suspended from the current session of the Assembly. This suspension is a gift to us as we were trying to protect the honor of our mothers and sisters.

What happened in Sandishakhli?

Notably, the Sandishakhli area of ​​North 24 Parganas district was in the news after a mob attacked Enforcement Directorate (ED) personnel on January 5. These officers had gone to search the house of local TMC official Shahjahan Sheikh in connection with the alleged ration distribution scam. Violent protests took place in Sandishakhli on February 10. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Penal Code (CrPC) have been imposed due to the violent protests in Sandishakhli. Last month, an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team had gone to search the residence of local Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan in the alleged ration distribution scam. Meanwhile, the crowd attacked them. Since then, Shah Jahan is on the run.
