In Jharkhand, the Champai Surin Cabinet approved a proposal to provide scholarships to girls for technical education. Under the ‘Manki Munda’ scholarship scheme, a female student will get a scholarship of Rs 15,000 per annum for diploma courses, while Rs 30,000 per annum for engineering courses. This decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Champai Soren.
So many girls will get benefits in the first year.
Cabinet Secretary Vandana Duddell said the scholarship scheme was launched to encourage girls to pursue technical education in the state, as the ratio of boys to girls in technical institutes in the state is 6:1. He said, “Around 3,000 girls pursuing diploma courses will benefit from this scheme in the first year. Similarly, 1,200 first-year students in engineering courses will benefit. He added that to get the benefits in the next academic session, the student has to clear the exam with 50% marks in aggregate without any back paper.
These decisions were also approved.
The Cabinet also approved the proposal to appoint non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to run 593 SC, ST and OBC hostels in the state. “The NGO will have to arrange cooks, night guards and librarians for the hostels. They will also be responsible for the housekeeping of the hostels,” he said. The Champai Surin government has also decided to provide interest-free loans to farmers in Jharkhand provided they repay the loan within a stipulated period. The cabinet approved the proposal to increase the interest concession to 4 percent from the existing 3 percent, Dedel said.
