In West Bengal’s Sandishakhli, Bashirhat, the issue of systematic sexual harassment of women has come to the fore. BJP MLAs along with West Bengal BJP chief Skanta Majumdar took out a protest march towards the SP office in Bashirhat in connection with the violence in Sandishakhli. There was a clash between the BJP workers marching towards the Superintendent of Police office and the police. On the other hand, the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday lifted the prohibitory order imposed under Section 144 in the area. Let’s find out what the whole deal is.

The High Court repealed Section 144.

Two residents of Sandishakhli had filed a petition requesting the court to issue directions to remove the prohibitory orders from the area. On February 9, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were imposed and internet services were suspended in Sandishakhli in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. However, on Tuesday, Justice Jai Sengupta struck down Section 144 of the CrPC imposed by the district administration of Sandishakhli. The judge said that the way it was done was not right.

Police and TMC workers in collusion – BJP

West Bengal BJP chief Sakant Majumdar has said that we came here to surround the SP office in Bashirhat. We had input that this would be done by police and TMC workers. We sent a message to the SP of the district that if some people violate, BJP workers will be stoned and lathi-charged. Many of our workers are injured and hospitalized. Meanwhile, BJP leader Swaindu Adhikari said on the whole issue, “What happened in Sandishkhali is shameful for West Bengal. It is a condemnable incident. National Human Rights Commission and National Commission for Women should take action. ”

Trinamool leader accused of sexually harassing women

Women have been protesting in Sandishakhli for the past few days over the alleged atrocities committed by Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his colleagues. Protesters allege that Sheikh and his gang have forcibly occupied large tracts of land besides sexually abusing the women of the area. Sheikh is absconding after a mob attacked an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team that raided his house in Sandishakhli last month in connection with the probe into the ration scam.
