Stock market closes flat, Nifty Midcap index slips 620 points on profit booking in IT energy stocks.

Stock market close on February 21, 2024: After two days of impressive gains, the Indian stock market witnessed a steep decline in Wednesday’s trading session as investors booked profits. The biggest declines were seen in IT and energy stocks. Apart from this, mid-cap and small-cap stocks are also affected by this fall. Sensex has once again fallen below 73,000. At the end of today’s trade, the BSE Sensex closed down 434 points at 72,623 points and the National Stock Exchange Nifty closed down 142 points at 22,055 points.

State of the sector

In today’s trade, shares of IT, Energy, Pharma, Media, Infra-Consumer Durables, Banking, Auto, Healthcare, Oil & Gas sectors witnessed major losses. Only FMCG, metals and real estate stocks have seen gains. Mid-cap and small-cap stocks have fallen sharply. The Nifty Midcap Index closed down 618 points and the Small Cap Index closed down 167 points. Of the 30 stocks in the Sensex, 14 closed with gains and 16 closed with losses. While 16 of Nifty’s 50 stocks closed with gains and 34 closed with losses.

Big loss to investors

In today’s business, the market price has fallen due to the fall in the stock market. The market capitalization of BSE-listed stocks declined to Rs 388.82 lakh crore from Rs 391.62 lakh crore in the previous session. This means that investors have lost Rs 2.80 lakh crore in today’s business.
