In the 5-match Test series against India, England’s most experienced player Joe Root’s bat looked completely silent in the first three matches. The main reason behind this was that Root played aggressively against his natural game. In the Ranchi Test, Root was once again in his old form and played an unbeaten innings of 122 runs as well as helping his team to a strong position. After the second day of the fourth Test, Root also responded to the criticism regarding the baseball strategy, saying that we have a different view on it.

It’s okay to be more aggressive sometimes.

After the Hyderabad Test match, England faced a crushing defeat in two consecutive matches. The English team suffered a crushing defeat of 434 runs in the Rajkot Test and after that the baseball strategy also came under criticism. Root now responded to all this in his statement saying that this is not a strategy that we should be proud of. The word baseball gets used a lot, but it’s your word. At the same time, it is not seen at all like this. Our goal as a team is to get the best out of each other. Although this strategy is not always correct, we are constantly improving it. I was waiting for this century for a long time because being a senior player and when you have played here a lot, you want to contribute to the team’s victory. Root also praised Shoaib Bashir who has been brilliant with the ball in the second day’s play and has taken 4 wickets so far.

Root became the player to score the most Test centuries against India.

While Joe Root scored the 31st century of his Test career in the Ranchi Test, he has now also become the player to score the most centuries against India in the history of Test cricket. Root has a total of 10 hundreds in Test cricket against India while also becoming the joint-most 50-plus innings against India.
