Mumbai: The people of Maharashtra have received a major shock amid the election season. Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has fixed new electricity rates. Now the impact of the increase in electricity bill prices will be felt by all in Maharashtra. Let us tell you that electricity prices have been increased from 1st April 2024. Under this, there has now been an increase of 10 to 20 percent. However, Maharashtra Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis says MERC has designed it in such a way that the impact will not be felt by the common man.

What are the new rates?

Under the new tariff plan, where earlier citizens had to pay Rs 5.58 per unit for 0 to 100 units, now they will have to pay Rs 5.88 per unit instead. That means now consumers will have to pay 30 paisa more per unit. While for 101 to 300 units, consumers will have to pay 11 rupees 46 paise. Apart from this, 301 to 500 units will have to pay 15 rupees 72 paise. Similarly, for consuming more than 500 units of electricity, consumers will have to pay Rs 17 81 paise per unit.

What did the energy minister say?

When Maharashtra’s Energy Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was asked about rising electricity prices, he gave the same answer. He said that Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has taken this decision. He said that it has been designed in such a way that it does not burden small consumers. Let me tell you that the dates of the Lok Sabha elections across the country have been announced. In such a case, the effect of increase in electricity bill during the Lok Sabha elections can be seen on the elections as well.
