Nitin Gadkari on hybrid vehicles: Advocating for a reduction in GST on hybrid vehicles, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has promised to rid the country of 36 crore petrol and diesel vehicles. When Nitin Gadkari was asked if India can be freed from petrol and diesel cars, he said it is 100% possible.

16 lakh crore will be saved.

In an interview to PTI, Nitin Gadkari said that it is difficult to do but not impossible. That’s my goal, he said. Gadkari said that India spends Rs 16 lakh crore annually on fuel imports. If this money is saved, it will change the lives of farmers, bring prosperity to the country’s villages and provide employment to the youth. The Road Transport Minister has refused to give a timeline for the complete removal of petrol and diesel cars from the country’s roads.

Proposal to reduce GST on hybrid vehicles

Nitin Gadkari said GST on hybrid vehicles is proposed to be reduced to 5%, while GST on flex engines is proposed to be reduced to 12%. He said that the proposal has been sent to the Finance Ministry and the Ministry is considering it. The Minister of Road Transport said that the import of fuel can be eliminated by promoting the use of biofuels.

Big change will be seen in 5 to 7 years.

The Road Transport Minister said that he has been advocating alternative fuels since 2004 and hoped that the next 5 to 7 years would see a major shift in this direction. He said that it is very difficult to tell the date and year of this change. He said that it is difficult but not impossible.
