Stock markets closed sharply lower on global cues, with Sensex falling 800 points

Stock market close on April 12, 2024: Indian stock markets fell sharply in the afternoon due to profit booking. The market moved lower due to selling in banking, FMCG and pharma shares. Mid-cap and small-cap stocks are also on the decline. At the end of today’s trade, the BSE Sensex closed down 793 points at 74,245 points and the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed down 234 points at 22,519 points. This decline in the market is due to the increase in the inflation rate in the US and the increase in commodity prices.

State of the sector

No sector escaped the sharp drop in the stock market in the afternoon. Banking, Auto, IT, Pharma, FMCG, Metals, Real Estate, Media, Energy, Infra, Oil & Gas, Consumer Durables as well as Healthcare sectors closed with heavy losses. Mid-cap and small-cap stocks fell in today’s trade.

The market cap is below Rs 400 lakh crore.

Due to fall in the stock market, the capital of the stock market has decreased. According to BSE data, the market cap of listed shares fell below Rs 400 lakh crore to Rs 399.76 lakh crore from Rs 402.16 lakh crore in the previous trading session. This means that the market capitalization has decreased by Rs 2.40 lakh crore in today’s session.
