The real name of the caller will now be known with every call, TRAI has proposed.

The problems faced by people due to ever increasing fraud and spam calls are going to end now. Telecom regulator TRAI has taken note of people’s concerns. The regulator has come up with a new proposal in this regard. It is recommended that the real name of the caller be disclosed with every call.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI gave this information late on Friday evening. It is called Introduction of Calling Name Presentation (CNAP). TRAI has given its recommendations for CNAP service in Indian telecom network. The regulator said it has made proposals in this regard after taking permission from the Department of Telecommunications. The Department of Telecommunications had asked TRAI to give suggestions on how to reveal the true identity of the caller.

The Telecom Department had sought suggestions from TRAI.

The Department of Telecommunications (DOT) had sought proposals from TRAI in March 2022, after which the regulator issued a consultation paper on CNAP services in November 2022 and invited comments from all stakeholders. There was an open debate in March last year after comments were received in favor and against. After all these processes now TRAI has prepared its proposals.

Caller ID feature will be like this.

TRAI recommends that caller ID feature should be available by default in domestic telecommunication networks. This means that the true identity of the caller must be revealed with every call. According to TRAI, this can be a supplementary service, which can be made available to customers on request. If these tips are followed then your mobile will soon show the real name of the caller and also the number of the caller. While taking the said number, the name that will be in the given ID will also appear along with the number.

This will benefit common people.

While the launch of TRAI’s default caller ID service may lead to market loss for some companies, on the other hand consumers may get a lot of relief. Currently, companies like Truecaller provide caller ID service, but even in this, users do not know the real name of the caller. In the increasingly digital economy, issues like call fraud, receiving spam from new numbers throughout the day and promotional calls are becoming serious. Despite constant suggestions from the regulator, it has not been possible to stop fraud or spam calls. Caller ID facility is expected to relieve people from these problems to a great extent.
