Meet Azim Premji’s son Rashad, know why he is taking half salary.

Rashad Premji: Azim Premji is a personality of the Indian business world who needs no introduction. He elevated Wipro from an FMCG company to a leading IT company in the country. Azim Premji took charge of Wipro at the age of just 21 and turned it into a Rs 2.70 lakh crore company. After that he retired and started doing charity work. He also made his mark in social service works all over the world. He handed over the command of the company to his son Rashad Premji. Wipro chairman Rashad Premji took only Rs 8 crore as salary for the financial year 2022-23. This is half his salary. He took this because of the decline in earnings of Wipro IT Services.

Azim Premji is the most generous person of India.

Azim Premji has the status of being the most generous person in India. He is recognized for his vision and philanthropic work. He was among the country’s richest men for nearly two decades before retiring. According to Edelgive Hurun Philanthropy List 2023 (Hurun India), last year alone Azim Premji and his family donated around Rs 1774 crore. His son Rashad Premji also has the same qualities as his father. When he saw that the company was in trouble, he cut his own salary in half.

Rashad Premji took over the helm of Wipro in 2007.

After leading Wipro for 53 years, Azim Premji handed it over to his son Rashad Premji. Rashad Premji joined Wipro in the year 2007. He held several positions before becoming the Executive Chairman in 2019. After studying Economics from Wesleyan University, he did his MBA from Harvard University. Rashad has also been the chairman of NASSCOM. He is now managing the global conglomerate Wipro, which currently employs around 2.50 lakh people.

Due to the poor performance of the company, the salary was halved.

Rashad Premji lives in Bengaluru with his wife and two children. He took a salary of just Rs 8 crore ($951,353) for the 2022-23 financial year. Due to the negative performance of the Wipro IT Services business, he had decided to take half his salary himself. Rashad also cut his salary by 31% during Covid-19. Rashad Premji is also on the boards of Wipro Enterprises, Wipro GE and Azim Premji Foundation.
