Government instructions to social media influencers, stay away from this work

The central government has issued a new warning to social media influencers. The government has asked social media influencers to refrain from promoting foreign gambling platforms. If even after this the influential people do not agree, strict action can be taken against them.

Also applies to surrogate advertising.

The central government issued an advisory in this regard on Thursday. In the advisory, social media influencers and endorsers are asked to stay away from advertisements for foreign online betting and gambling apps. This advisory also applies to surrogate advertising. Surrogate advertising is advertising that uses a symbolic product instead of the actual product or service. For example, the use of pan masala in tobacco advertisements.

Hence instructions are given.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting says that these advertisements wrongly influence consumers, especially the youth. Online betting and gambling advertisements have financial and socio-economic impacts. With this in mind, social media influencers have been asked to stay away from their advertisements.

Disagreement will be dealt with.

The advisory warns that social media influencers who fail to comply may face action under the Consumer Protection Act 2019. This action includes the removal and deactivation of social media posts and accounts.

Social media affects the economy.

The rise of social media has created a category of influencers across the world including India. People who have a large number of followers and subscribers on various social media platforms like X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube etc. are called social media influencers. Many companies take the help of such influencers and create special advertisements to reach consumers directly. Thus an impressive economy has developed.
