Amul, the country’s largest dairy company, will sell milk outside India for the first time. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) will introduce four varieties of milk in the US market within a week. Through this initiative, the company aims to offer products tailored to the needs of Indians and Asians living outside India.

Signing an agreement with an American company

GCMMF Managing Director Jain Mehta while talking to news agency PTI said that we have been exporting dairy products for decades. This is the first time we are offering fresh milk outside India. It was further reported that GCMMF has signed an agreement with the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA), a 108-year-old cooperative organization, to introduce fresh milk to the US market. He said that milk collection and processing will be done by MMPA while GCMMF will do marketing and branding.

In which US cities will Amul products be available?

“The product will be ours,” Mehta said. Within a week, Amul Fresh, Amul Gold, Amul Shakti and Amul Slim n Trim will be available in the US market. He said that fresh milk will be available in other cities including New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Washington, Dallas and Texas. GCMMF will target the NRI and Asian population through this initiative.

Cheese and buttermilk will also be available soon.

Asked about the sales target, he said GCMMF will focus on branding and marketing for the next 3-4 months. He said that we are expecting a good response from the customers. Mehta said GCMMF will also introduce fresh milk products like cheese, yogurt and buttermilk in the near future.
