Hyderabad: 23 years after the formation of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi) the party founder for the first time. Chandrasekhar Rao’s family is away from the Lok Sabha elections. A former chief minister or a member of his family has contested every Lok Sabha and Assembly election since 2004. There were speculations that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president popularly known as KCR or his son KT. Rama Rao or nephew T. Harish Rao may contest the Lok Sabha elections this time. However, none of the three MLAs contested the election.

KCR’s daughter K. Kavita, who lost the 2019 election from Nazmabad Lok Sabha constituency, is not contesting this time as well. Kavita, a member of the Telangana Legislative Council, was recently arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the Delhi Excise Policy scam.

TRS was formed in 2001 after he resigned from TDP.

KCR, who resigned from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2001 to revive the Telangana movement and formed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), was elected to the Lok Sabha from Karimnagar in 2004. and served as a minister in the Congress-led UPA. A government was formed at the centre. He retained the seat in the 2006 and 2008 by-elections. KCR was elected to the Lok Sabha from Mahbubnagar in 2009. During this period he was able to achieve the goal of Telangana state.

KCR became the Chief Minister after the TRS formed the first government in Telangana in 2014. His son and nephew, who were again elected to the Assembly, became ministers in his cabinet. In the simultaneous parliamentary elections, KCR’s daughter Kavita was elected to the Lok Sabha from Nizamabad. TRS retained power in 2018, Kavita lost to BJP’s Dharampuri Arvind from Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Later she was elected to the Legislative Council. BRS lost power to Congress in the recent assembly elections.

BRS announced candidates for all 17 seats.

With the announcement of Gadam Srinivas Yadav’s candidature from the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat on Sunday, the BRS has announced its candidates for the May 13 polls on all 17 seats. The party has claimed that it has maintained social balance in the selection of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana and thereby won the trust of all sections. A glance at the list of candidates shows that the BRS has fielded six leaders from SCs, three from Scheduled Castes, two from Scheduled Tribes and six from Other Castes.

The BRS, which had won nine seats in 2019, retained three sitting MPs – Nama Nageshwar Rao (Khammam), Malot Kavita (Mahububabad) and Mane Srinivas Reddy (Mahububnagar). Five sitting MLAs defected to the Congress or BJP, while one sitting MLA was elected in the recent elections.

BRS claims- people of the state are remembering KCR’s rule.

The party also believes that people across the state are missing KCR’s rule after the recent assembly election results. “In this context, the party is all set to register a victory in the Lok Sabha elections,” he said. The party noted that some candidates have already started visiting constituencies and reaching out to people. It was claimed that he was getting good support from the people. Top leaders of the party and public representatives are preparing to campaign vigorously in all constituencies to gain the support of the people. BRS chief KCR himself will soon start visiting the constituencies to intensify the election campaign. (IANS)
